90 Seconds of Calm

Whilst most of us give absolutely no thought to our breath. Part of the magic of breathing is it's simplicity in allowing us to control our internal body functions through to how we experience our external environment.

The more we can be aware of our breath. The greater influence it can have in improving our lives.

Some powerful changes include:

  • Minimising PTSD

  • Reducing Anxiety

  • Managing Depression

  • Controlling Anger

  • Improving our digestion

  • Increasing our energy levels

  • Enjoying better sleep

  • Experiencing increased relaxation

  • Enhancing relationship

  • And the list goes on...and on...and on...

Simple Breath Awareness

One of the easiest and fastest methods to experience the amazingness of our breath. Is to be 'breath aware'. Now what is that?

It's simply taking some time to focus on, and be acutely aware of our breathing process. How we are functionally breathing. Notice what emotions we may feel. What muscles are engaged? Do we feel a heightened sense of awareness or more one of relaxation.

This does not need to be a long and lengthy process. Although just sitting in a state of breath awareness for 10 minutes will produce profound health benefits (some are listed above).

Whilst your breath awareness practise can be as short as 20-30 seconds. I highly recommend a MINIMUM of 90 seconds. And this involves beings aware of just three things.

And Here's How

During these 90 seconds you can simply focus on the 3 Parts of the Breath Cycle (see blog for detail on the 3 Parts of Breath).

The three parts of our breath are:

  • Inhale

  • Exhale

  • Pause

Simple eh! For just 90 seconds, or for at least five repetitions. Just breath in, breath out and pause slightly after the exhale. That's it.

Breath In - Breath Out - And Pause.

And repeat for 5 reps.

This is another reason why I created The Simple Breath. Using our breath is amazingly powerful and life-changing. And once we know what it's doing and how we can optimise it. It is so SIMPLE to use.

Maybe I should change the name to The Simple, Yet Amazingly Awesome Life-Changing Breath?? :-)
